JOIN OUR "MEMBERS ONLY" E-GROUP!
As a member of FCC-Houston you have the option of joining our members only e-group, "FCCHlist" which is a listserv or email group. It is basically a managed email distribution list. This means that you, as a member of the group, have the ability to send email to the group (e.g., "post") by using a single email address - in this case, fcchlist@yahoogroups.com - and have the email automatically forwarded to all other members of the group. Similarly, other member's postings (or posts) are automatically forwarded to you. It is an easy way to share information with other people of similar interests.
Topics of discussion typically include: FCC-Houston business and events; program announcements; website updates; raising children and specifically internationally-adopted children in the greater Houston area (schools, daycares, playgroups, developmental issues, interaction with society, quality family activities); the activities and workings of the local Asian communities in the greater Houston area; subscribers' evolution as parents, families, and adoptive families and parents; and adoption and specifically international adoption. Note that FCC-Houston also welcomes families who have adopted elsewhere in Asia, and so FCCHlist probably will soon also include posts by parents who have adopted or will adopt in other Asian countries.
FCCHlist is managed by a moderator. The moderator has multiple duties, depending on how the group was set up. One key duty is to maintain the list and make sure that the membership is accurate (contains the correct email address for the members) and current (i.e., contains only dues-paid members of FCC-Houston). Currently, posts are not generally reviewed by the moderator. This means that any mail you send to fcchlist@yahoogroups.com is distributed immediately - it is not reviewed by anyone prior to distribution to the members of the email group. Note, also, that the moderator may change this if the postings stray too far (for any reason) from the intended purpose of FCCHlist.
If you are new to email groups, one easy way to learn about them is to stop reading this and join up. To join, simply go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fcchlist/ and follow the on screen instructions. After a view days, depending upon post volume, you'll get a sense of what its all about.
